Longton Brickcroft

Longton Brickcroft is a small nature reserve situated in the village of Longton, between Preston and Southport.  The reserve, which is free to visit,  consists of two main pools surrounded by woodland that extends to 11 hectares. The site was one a brickworks factory, hence the name.  We have visited a couple of times, and although the selection of waterfowl was limited to a few ducks, there are numerous woodland birds and grey squirrels, and the walk around the main south pool in particular makes for an attractive half-day outing.  There is a Visitor Centre however we have never found it open, and apart from a car park, there are no facilities.
