Old Faithful to Bozeman

Day 11 – Return to Bozeman

Today we returned to Bozeman, first by snow coach from Old Faithful to Mammoth Hot Springs, then by our normal tour coach to Bozeman.  After the snow the previous day, the morning looked quite hopeful with only some light snowfall, but as the day progressed the weather closed in, until it was snowing very heavily.  On the return Snow Coach drive we first visited the Lower Geyser Basin where there are  more geysers as well as fumaroles, mud pools and hot springs.  We then visited Norris Geyser Basin, and it seemed we were the first tour to visit that day as the paths were deep in snow in some places.  Driving north from Norris, the weather closed in completely, and we passed one of the supply trucks being towed out of the snow.  At Mammoth Hot Springs we picked up our tour bus which had been parked there for a few days to make the final return journey to Bozeman.  In the evening we ate at the Outback Steakhouse next door to our hotel, where several of our tour group had gone to watch the Superbowl.

Day 12 – Bozeman to New York

Today we were back on our own for the flight to New York and the last phase of our holiday.  As our flight was not until early afternoon, we hung around the hotel in the morning before going to the airport.  By the time we arrived at Newark Airport and transferred to our hotel – the Grand Hyatt Hotel on 42nd Street – it was getting late, so we chose to eat in the hotel rather than trying to find a restaurant.  No pictures today!
